Today was a special day. I had surprise guests come by and venture with me to a new complex in Mississauga. This marketplace just opened a few weeks ago and has been the rage in my social media channels. So I just had to see it for myself.

Seafood City originally began in the US and has since grown to service Filipino communities all over North America. It takes its design from traditional Filipino marketplaces and offers a wide array of authentic Filipino food and groceries.

I had heard about this market opening up in Mississauga several weeks prior. I knew it wasn’t going to be long before my parents give me a call to go and check it out. The day finally came and to my surprise my sister also decided to join us on this fun exploration.

Moving to Canada at such a young age of 4, I didn’t get to experience much of my own culture growing up here. We did go back to the philippines for a vacation when I was 11 and I remember being culture shocked and traumatized so I didn’t really get to enjoy the culture much. So this was my best opportunity to experience a bit of my culture in the comfort of my home town.

Conveniently located from my home it wasn’t too long before we found it. The parking was pretty full, but we managed to find a spot in no time. The market was pretty packed, but it wasn’t as bad as it was during the first few weeks of it’s opening. As soon as we got in we could smell all the wonderful cooking from the restaurants right by the door. Mmmmm, the prepared foods were so inviting that it was the first thing we decided to do.

As we finished filling up our bellies we took a nice stroll around the grocery store to see what they had to offer. We were a bit disappointed that there really wasn’t much difference from the usually Chinese markets found here other then the prices where much more expensive. After navigating through all the aisle we made our way out the door with just a few items. It was an interesting experience, other then the food I don’t really see myself visiting any time soon again.
