I have to be honest, I was dredging this day because I hadn't really started running this year. My anxiety was in an all time high not knowing whether I was going to make through or not.

There’s a reason why I didn’t prepare for this run. Earlier this year I decided to join Link Integrated Health, a reputable gym in the beaches and try a trainer to help me reach my goals. After my first assessment we both came to realize that distance running may be a set back to developing the body that I was hoping for. The body that I was looking for is more of sprinter then a distance runner. So with that being said I decided to stop my running and give my trainer a chance to create a program to help me gain some size.

We began my training with a hypertrophy program to start gaining size. With the proper guidance to tighten up my form I began to see results. From there we moved into a strength program once my body start to taper out with it’s gains. So coming into this run I wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of my performance. I was convinced I would need to stop at some point and walk in order to make it to the end, at the very least I was expecting a very slow time.

This was the first run I have done in this circumstance, and to my surprise I was able to finish the run and keep a very good time. This could be contributed to that fact that strength exercising does impact endurance sports like running. Another thing that has improved my performance is my transition to barefoot running. With focusing on landing on the balls of my foot and increasing my cadence I felt an instant improvement on my my efficiency and foot impact on the ground. I will go further into detail in another post.

Here a short video highlighting the start and finish of the run. Thank you to both my amazing friends Julie and Blaine for completing the run with me.
